Feed Rate Calculator
We’re here to help you get the results you want for your next routing project.  Simply put in your parameters below and the feed rate calculator will give you an accurate measure for how fast to feed your material through the router.
How to Use the Feed Rate Calculator?
Input spindle speed in rotations per minute
Input the number of flutes your router bit contains
Enter chip load (refer to charts below)
Note: If you’re using Onsrud bits, you can check the charts below to get a chip load range.  “Chip Load” refers to the thickness of a chip after it has been machined.  It is a measure of how much heat is taken away from the cutting tool.
If the feed rate is too fast, the bit is forced to take more chips out of the material than it should which can lead to breakage.  Alternatively, if the feed rate is too slow, the bit will simply be rubbing the material and creating too much heat without taking away any chips. If not enough heat is taken away, the tool will overheat and will dull quickly or break.
